Outgoing Batsman

On a glorious day at sunny St Ives the end came prematurely. Winning the toss Port invited St Ives to bat on a decent wicket that looked superb for so early in the season, but the new ball partnership of Adam Young and Matt 'FA Cup ears' Stokeld kept Hicks and skipper David Phillips in check, bowling a tight line, with The Duke testing both batsmen with a fiery spell, and the bandy Australian conceding just 2 runs from his 7 overs. Young removed Phillips and that seemed to expose the tail immediately! Hicks struggled with The Duke's length, but managed to stay around as the wickets fell at the other end, Cif Carvelly bowling a beautiful spell of aggressive pace, the fluffy bearded chatterbox finally bowling Hicks with one that just rolled back onto the stumps. Carvelly topped this off with an amazing run out from a direct hit from gully, proving at the moment he can do little wrong! Despite a little cameo from Pellow, it was left to everyone's favourite Irishman, JJ Walker - his balls swinging beautifully despite the sunny conditions. He cleared up the tail with a fine spell of 4 overs of perfect swing, finally ending the innings in the 21st over.

In reply, due to Boo Boo Bonnett's absence, The Duke was promoted to open with instructions to play a cautious innings to ensure maximum bonus points. Despite several words of wisdom from partner, Wee Wee Bray, 18 balls was all it took for him to amass his 33 runs, smashing 3 fours, 2 sixes and what can only be described as a 'nine'! The game finished before 4 o'clock, it was back to Porthleven to see the 2nds complete their victory and an amazing start for both sides, with maximum points from all their opening games.
