Despite missing a couple of regulars Porthleven maintained their winning run at the expense of 3rd placed Barripper. Winning the toss on a surprisingly grassy wicket Port decided to bowl despite the roasting conditions, but it proved to be the correct decision. Adam Young bowled his usual line, his length at times enjoyed by David Trestrail as he drove him through the covers. Gordie Strachan, his MC Hammer trousers proving to the batsmen 'they can't touch this' but actually they could as Simon Trestrail edged Young for 4, Strapon's paws unable to reach the chance. Pressure was maintained by 'Iron' JJ Walker and Boo Boo Bonnett juggled a catch at slip before holding the ball to dismiss him for 5. David Trestrail hit a ton in the reverse fixture but after smashing one of Walker's balls into the field for 6, the following delivery was snapped up brilliantly again by Boo at slip, sending 'Bonecrusher' Walker into an Ali shuffle! Cif Carvelly for once let his bowling do the talking as he pounded in hard
down the hill, unsettling each batsman with his pace. Williams slashed at a wide one from Walker, the ball looping in the air, but needed a strong wrist behind it, Francis snaffled the catch! Carvelly continued to fire in the deliveries at the batsmen, his hostile spell directed at all in white. Supremacy was maintained, bowling Mark Trestrail for 13 and Paul for a duck. ZZ Walker, following on from last weeks 'antics' still had aggression in his bones, as he threw the ball in an attempt at a run out, straight into the chest of a none too amused Colin Trestrail, the fiery Irishman had obviously had some apple juice on his potatoes! With the sniff of the tail in sight, Parish brought himself on - his second ball pulled by Colin Trestrail straight to
'Fagricultural' Uphill Gardner - Paddy taking his usual weekly catch. Young managed to drop Stevens next ball but made no mistake in the following over. Laity was then professionally caught by Doyle Lee in the covers, leaving Carvelly to wrap things up by bowling Brian Dunstan to close the innings on just 66. With Wee Wee Bray missing, Del Newman was pushed up to open, just like he did in the old days! Four 4's and a fine straight drive for 6 saw Newman race to 28 before slicing the ball straight to Simon Trestrail at cover, bringing in the 'Celtic Warrior' to join Bonnett. Boo knew the task in hand only too well, and was happy to play the anchor role, his 16 runs, all boundaries, but took 44 balls. Roleplay is one of Smokin' Walker's favourite pastimes - as anyone that's enjoyed one of his parties will testify, but today it was not to be, caught by Laity for 6. In strode Carvelly, 6 balls was all it took him to end the game and take 20 points from this top of the table clash as the South African roared his team to victory, delighting the watching dancing bear and camp military hero, Port's travelling support growing, as is their march towards the Division 4 title!
