Promotion to Division 3 secured with 3 games to play, but Port's poor fielding made the task a lot harder than it needed to be! Batting first Rosudgeon made a poor start, Cif Carvelly bowling David Ellis and then Leek with only 14 runs on the board, and after 10 overs the score had still only moved to 20-2 as Young and Carvelly kept a tight grip on the Jacka brothers. Chances came and went but were not taken, Walker and Parish came into the attack but could do little to break it, fiery Irish grappler, JJ falling out with the umpire, throwing caps at each other - gripping stuff, but no wickets! Perhaps Friday night's fighting juice was still in his system! Maybe the umpire refused to surrender??..! Finally, with the score on 80 JJ finally got his man. After 'Big Ron' Carvelly had put down a simple chance, it was left to the younger of the clan, Cif to take a great catch in the covers to remove K Jacka for 30. C Jacka rode his luck, even presenting Wee Wee Bray with a lifting edge off his 'younger brother' Parish, but the Italian got the ball caught in the web of his greasy glove and it popped out, but in sight of his 50 he gave Carvelly his 2nd catch and departed for 48 with the score 116-4. Badcock came in and immediately displayed his strokes, JJ having to end his spell through injury after trying to battle through, replacement Andy 'Boo Boo' Bonnett giving better support than his figures suggest. With the score on 135 Parish got one to move back, taking Badcock's middle stump and finally Port began to get some rythmn, with Bray taking M Jacka from behind before T Jacka dragged the ball back onto his stumps to depart for a duck. Adam Young and the ever chatty Carvelly returned and the pair penetrated the tail in turn, dismissing the visitors for 157. In reply Bray and Bonnett started in familiar good cop, bad cop style - Boo content to take a back seat as Pastafarian Bray sliced and cut his way through the crust of the Rosudgeon attack, two 6's and four 4's before falling to the first ball of the 9th over, but the olive munching opener had amassed 34 from just 24 balls by then as the score had raced to 55-1. A good platform had been set, and injured hero JJ 'Platoon' Walker battled through the pain and joined Boo, looking in good form until one of K Jacka's balls kept low, giving him no chance as he was trapped in front, a long limp back to the pavilion. With Carvelly joining Boo it was hard to get a word in edgeways in the middle, but after a glorious straight 6, Cif milked one off his legs, straight to the fielders waiting hands at square leg. It could be a quiet night at Carvelly Towers tonight! With the score now 114-4 Rosudgeon sensed they had a chance, but Adam Young was in no mood to give them a sniff, continuing last weeks match winning form as he kept Boo company and the pair saw Port home in just the 28th over, securing another victory, promotion, and just 19 points from their remaining 3 games will see the 'Roasters' crowned Division 4 West champions and 2 titles in successive years.
If the feat can be achieved next Saturday at St Day Helston's pubs (Thanks to the Bell and Big T's for the sponsorship!) will be a sea of yellow once more!
