The biggest shock here was the fact the game was played! By 2 o'clock rain was falling everywhere except Porthleven, so after winning the toss Port took the field. The batsmen walked out, the field was set....and down came the rain! Off the players went and a couple of attempts to start were made before we got going! JJ 'The Dentist' Walker started with a bang, bowling Pascoe for a duck, his ball keeping low. The Irish slugger then decided to vent his anger on Vincent, hitting him in the throat and numerous body blows! Adam Young had little luck from the other end as Port struggled in the damp conditions, only keeper Bray seeming totally at home! Troon lost Vincent, well caught by Doyle Lee off the bowling of Cif Carvelly. Fine rain persisted, but so did the players, both sides keen for points, but once Troon had secured their 2nd bonus point the batsmen were keen to go off! Off they went, but the rain had virtually stopped so the Port players were kept out on the field for another pep talk - it worked. Troon returned and Carvelly was at his noisy best, only the stubborn resistance of Wills preventing the tail being exposed, but the lippy South African was in top form, even voicing his first lbw appeal since he joined the club when Stephen White was trapped plumb in front first ball by a yorker, the umpire nervously calling not out! 2 overs later Cif got his revenge, rattling the sticks of White. Power shots from Wills kept the board ticking along, Johnson his only means of support before Walker got in the act with another catch. With the rain now heavy and the score 127-7 an early tea was taken, but by 5 o'clock the players were out again, a 36 over game now. The bunny-hunter returns....Adam Young back to feast on the tail, with the help of a fine catch at 2nd slip by 'Lord Lard', Paul Combellack and JJ wrapping up the innings with his 3rd catch of the game. A fielding performance which despite the weather was golden. Showers threatened, but then the skies cleared and as Port began their reply hardly a cloud could be seen, many other sides possibly regretting not giving their games every chance. As always, the reply was swift, but in the 8th over Boo Boo Bonnett was somehow lbw to a left arm round the wicket bowler. Interesting! Derek 'Nostalgia' Newman joined in form Italian, Bray before the veteran decided to leave a delivery from Melissa Rowe, bowling him for 10. As he skuttled off to the dressing room, the words 'they never had girls bowling in the good old days' were muttered. Bray was joined by Walker and the pair got involved in a 56 run partnership for the 3rd wicket before the pasta loving Post-it peddlar slipped one behind, hitting six 4's and five 6's in his 43 ball knock. Walker rattled up seven 4's and a maximum in his 31 ball stay, Carvelly finishing the game with a customary six! With the undefeated run still in tact, 20 points and an ever growing lead at the top of the table, the day was topped off with a celebration in Big T's - what better end to a perfect day!? But full credit most go to Troon, who made every effort to play the game and were unlucky to go home with just 4 points and some heavy bags of wet kit!
