All good things come to an end, and an unbeaten run stretching back over 12 months since Mullion defeated Port at home after a Meadery trip came to a halt at the hands of a determined Beacon side who deserved their victory. Paul 'Wristy' Francis turned up late - with the excuse that he was 'sorting out his bride to be's ring', but Port took the field in confident mood, Adam Young and Cif Carvelly bowling great opening spells, the smooth talking Protea unlucky to say the least when Hearley clearly gloved behind to Pastafarian keeper Bray, only for the umpire to 'not hear anything' and the batsman choosing to stand his ground! The introduction of JJ 'Gnasher' Walker and skipper Parish slowed the rate yet further, their first 6 overs between them yielding just 2 runs as the pressure built and Walker took a high swirling caught and bowled chance. Easy off your own when the catching cup's at stake! He followed up by bowling Emery, who played an awful shot, but JJ liked it! Lobb was his next victim, caught by Doyle Lee. Skipper Tripconey came in playing his shots but drove Parish straight to the clutching claws of 'Magpie' Osborne at mid on, followed by Hearley being run out by a great throw from Carvelly, who was keen to send him back where he came from! Pooke and Dunne then started to put on a partnership so Young and Carvelly were brought back - Carvelly again unlucky as Dunn edged behind to Bray, proving again that batsmen don't walk at this club, and umpires blink slowly! The verbals from the slips seemed to upset Dunn, who was intent on trying to smash the next few deliveries, but he missed a straight one and his sticks were rattled. Young then trapped Pooke in front before having Pascoe caught behind with one skied into the clouds, Bray's gloves safe as ever. Parish and Walker came back, Magpie taking a superb catch running around the long on boundary to dismiss Geech, Bray in action again to remove Hocking and end the innings. In reply Bray turned from hero to villain as he was caught for just 2, Boo soon followed, bowled by one that kept low for 6. Walker decided to attack from the off, smashing Pascoe back over his head for a huge 6 but with the score on 30 he fell for 19. Carvelly's form deserted him too, bowled for just 7, Colin Lee next to fall for a single before Young joined 'Yousef' Gardner and the pair began to give Port hope. It was not to be as Paddy gave a sharp chance to the keeper and he took it, time for a captains innings then.......ah, maybe not! Parish letting his troops down and exposing the tail as Sanchez Orchard was stumped, Young finally bowled for a stubborn 19, 'King of Bling' Francis last to go for a duck, leaving Magpie stranded in his nest and only 6 points taken in the quest for the title. Hopefully a kick where it's needed for next weeks home game against St Ives, and get the title hopes back on track.
