With 7 forced changes due to Flora Day drinking commitments, this was an amazing win. With 11 players only secured at the last minute, those who stepped up from the 2nd XI did the club and themselves proud with their efforts, securing maximum points again for the 3rd successive game. >Batting first, pressure was on the 1st team 'regulars' and the loss of Boo Boo Bonnett in the 6th over wasn't what the doctor ordered. In came Cif Carvelly, brimming with confidence after his hundred on Monday, the extrovert South African tore into the bowling at will, supported by 'up the' Gary McLintock whose patient 32 ensured a 2nd wicket partnership of 102 before he was bowled. Aussie Adam Young joined 'Ray' Cif allowing the Durban Destroyer to smash 12 fours and 5 sixes on his way to 87 before holing out. Young went on to make 33, with Darren Parish seeing the score past the 200 mark, before proud father, 'Big Ron' Carvelly punched the last ball of the innings for a boundary, and only 'Howlin' Mad' Magpie deprived of a bat!

With a decent total to defend, the opening attack of Young and evergreen veteran, Spider Kelly reduced the visitors to 25-4, including a spectacular diving slip catch by Kebab Richards, before both taking a well earned rest after 12 overs. Carvelly junior and Parish struggled to keep such a tight grip, and after one of the worst slower balls seen at 'The Bottoms' by the skipper, which was smashed for 6, he knew he had to bring himself off, and put the Australian back into the attack. It worked - in his 1st over Oz removed Angove for 38, and despite Waters' attempts, it was left to John 'Sweeny' Barber to swoop and run out Ellias with a bullet-like 3 yard throw ensuring maximum points. Hopefully the 1st team "Flora's" will be as grateful as the skipper for the efforts put in by the 2nd team players who stood in. Thanks lads!
