A resounding victory ended the season on Saturday as the Roasters blew Gulval away with a strong all round performance. Batting first Gulval got off to a poor start when Gendall was caught by a
diving (no misprint!) catch from Parish off the bowling of Australian monkey Adam Young with just 4 runs on the board. Just 8 runs later the same combination linked up to reduce the visitors to 12-2.
It was a Cock and Boyle story for the next 15 overs as 63 were added for the 3rd wicket before Cock edged Parish to stand in keeper Twiggy Thomas, Italian Bray away on footballing duties. Boyle was
next, driving Walker for several boundaries before the dandelion loving Irishman worked him out, LBW for 31. Neil Cook and Ray Eddy then put together a slow but useful partnership, Cook seeming
to have a target on his body as he was repeatedly peppered, first by Parish, then Carvelly - never has a batsman looked so uncomfortable, the cut shot, or 'run away' seemed the only thing in his locker,
with all the fielders on the off side! With Young brought back it was Walker who helped him towards his 5 wicket haul, first catching Eddy for 22, then Gibson for 10. One of Parish's balls had hit Twiggy
on the finger, severe bruising causing the keeper to limp off for treatment, until he was reminded it was his finger rather than a broken leg! Mac McLintock took the gloves as Port were in a familiar
position, down to 10 men yet again! Carvelly then got involved as first he caught Butler for Young to complete his 5-for, before he bowled Eddy and Hill to leave the visitors with 182 on the board on quite
a lively pitch. "Pasop vir bobbejane" he was heard to mutter!
With 'Guiseppe' Bray and Boo Boo Bonnett away a new opening partnership was tried, newly recovered Thomas and JJJ Walker stepping up the pair amassed the highest opening partnership of the
year, 112 as the pair rattled along bringing up the ton in the 16th over, the 17th brought drama - a huge caught behind appeal turned down with JJ surviving to smash the next ball for 6, bowled the next ball
for a 34 ball 46.  Run Machine, Kevin Oliver joined Twig, but 24 runs later Thomas' stay ended, bowled for an entertaining 69 from just 54 balls. With just 13 runs to go Oliver was trapped LBW, but Carvelly
and McLintock saw the target reached with no more alarms. With news filtering through that the 2nds had completed a crushing win over Gulval 2nds, it was cue for Helston to be invaded by a sea of yellow
Roasters, getting amongst it in big T's until the early hours!
A season we're all glad to see the back of, we still have to be proud of the progress we've made in establishing sides in Divisions 3 and 5. A big thank you to all who've helped, our sponsors, supporters,
those who give many hours behind the scenes and also to those who read this rubbish every week! Next season will bring fresh hopes and ambitions, and a chance to play Mullion again, Division 4 champs.
Well played lads, will be looking forward to doing battle once more!
Hopefully we've done you proud Del, we miss you every day and every game, but you'll always be there....probably telling a story or two!
Always in our thoughts pal x
