On a roasting afternoon at The Bottoms Porthleven kept
their hopes of silverware alive with some impressive performances, especially
by the bowlers. Cif 'Emily' Carvelly was first into his stride, too much pace
for Brewer who chipped a simple chance to Parish with just 2 on the board.
Hooley rode
his luck for a while but then it was the turn of Aussie Adam Young, forcing him
to play on for 22. Carvelly was showing great pace, making it hard for 'keeper
Bray, at one point banging his balls into the Italians chin. Not a pretty
sight! Nigel 'Henman' Dunstan couldn't wait to make his Roasters debut, flying
out of the closet, bowling Whitaker with just the second ball of his Roasters
career. The next over his length was too much for Tregear, bowling him for 8 as
he continued to probe the batsmen throughout his spell. Breeze was next to
fall, struggling time and time again with JJ's balls before finally driving
straight to Cif at mid on for just 2. Twiggy Thomas was next in the action,
catching Try off
chance,
plucked from the skies before the catch of the day was taken by Jamie
'Squirrel' Slater in the gully to end the innings for 133.
In reply Port lost their first wicket on 34, Bray
caught for 17. Twiggy Joined Boo and penetrated the Botallack ring 3 times
before he was bowled for 14. JJ was next in, the swashbuckling potato muncher
hitting a 6 and four 4's in his 14 ball stay before being well caught for 25,
his innings coming prematurely to end when it looked like he was set for
another big score. Boo Boo Bonnett was next to go after, for him, a rapid 58
ball 38, taken from behind as Penrose teased his bails off. Carvelly was not to
be defeated, completing a fine day as he clubbed an undefeated 29 from just 21
balls to see his side home after Adam Young, in the side due to a self
