With only 8 players first thing on Saturday, the morning was spent scouring for players, but those who came in proved to be highly influential in a well deserved victory, completed with almost 15 overs to spare.
Local tramp, Ronnie Williams (Jnr) was only passed fit to play due to the lack of a breathaliser, but after Simon Johnson drove the first ball of the match to the long off boundary, he then proceeded to finger Martin 'Crispy' Duck straight to the waiting Williams. The same combo accounted for Mitchell, the only casualty being the banana in Williams pocket, or was he just pleased with the catch?
From here though Ryan Treloar and 'Clarke' Kent took the total past 100 and the drinks break, Crispy rested after a great 7 over spell, Walker unlucky, and DCI Higgs struggling with his length before 'Pri' Mark Pollard was introduced, followed by the skipper enjoying a rare trundle.
Pollard created the pressure, putting the ball in the right place time and time again, but it was Parish who had the breakthrough, Andrew 'Magpie' Orchard taking the catch at backward square leg to remove Kent. Treloar's frustrations finally gave way to a poor shot, driving Pollard straight to Parish at midwicket.
Hulme was next to fall, bowled by Parish before Pollard repeated the dose, Aleksi bowled for a duck. Parish, mixing up the pace, put down a quicker one, Langdon halfway through the shot as the stumps were skittled.
Pollard completed his fine spell, Walker returned to initially some punishment from Johnson, picking his balls up over 'cow corner' for 3 maximums. The potato collecting Irish prince refused to surrender , enticing a sliced shot to the safe hands of Kev 'KO' Oliver at point.
Parish then had his trusty Magpie flutter round, swooping to catch Riddle, before then trapping Rowe in front to close the innings and send the away fans wild!
The reply got off to a brisk start before in the 3rd over 'Run Machine' Oliver was bowled with the score on 15. This brought in 'Chicken' Higgs to join the tramp, who was clearly still struggling from his Friday night antics, but the pair kept the board ticking, boundaries almost every over, as the rate required came tumbling quicker than a suspect 'down the stairs'.
After putting on 75 in 15 overs it was Higgs who fell, holing out right on the long off fence, but his 39 off 44 had set the tone. Dave 'Jesus' Pollard next to the crease, promoted due to prior cinema related commitments, but by no means looked out of place batting at 4, putting on a valuable 54 with Williams, his 22 coming from 41 balls before Riddle bowled him, his long face consoled by the thought of popcorn and his warm nuts.
'Trampy' Williams deserved to see the Roasters home, but he fell for 68 off just 81 balls, the school of thought after watching some of his more 'patient' innings is to slip him a few vodkas before he bats in future!
Colin 'Doyle' Lee and J 'J' Walker then safely saw the target reached, 20 points secured on a day the 2nds won their 4th consecutive game. A great effort from two under strength sides.
