After taking the return match to a thrilling climax,
this proved to be a tad disappointing with a lacklustre performance
from the usual 10 men going down to a heavy defeat.
Winning the toss bowling seemed the only option after the morning
showers but the Roasters failed to take advantage, Camborne dictating
throughout.
Nigel Dunstan, fresh from having to explain the various wounds he
was sporting and apparently preferring to 'take it on the chin' opened
up with Bradley 'Baileys' Bury. The pair worked their ends furiously,
the skipper bringing Dunstan off after his 5th over, replacing him
with Mark 'Pri' Mark Pollard, the long faced medium pacer again getting
the breakthrough, this time in his 3rd over, Woolcock poking behind
to the waiting gloves of Ronnie Williams, freshly washed kit a relief
for all, 41-1.
It was 12 overs, but 61 runs before the next wicket. The ball repeatedly
going in the air, but the missing man told as holes were penetrated
before Pollard finally got his 2nd wicket, Thomas gone for 35. Brought
back, Dunstan got Head in the 33rd over, Kev Pawley surprising himself
by taking the catch!
After Bury had somehow bowled 11 overs without a wicket, 'Time Out'
Tim Oliver's balls were tweaked for 5 overs but with no luck. The
usual inspired, inspirational piece of captaincy saw Parish have Batchelor
caught by Bury with the very first ball of his spell, the same combination
accounting for Nigel Endean with the first ball of the next over.
Hinds was then trapped plumb in front on his toes with a Parish yorker,
the pleading appeals from the players turner down as the batsman started
to walk, stopping in amazement the umpire had turned it down! 39 runs
then came off his bat as he and Rule took Parish and Dunstan to task
in the latter overs, Dunstan finally getting his man bowled but the
damage had been down and a big target set.
The response was not particularly swift, Boo Boo Bonnett taking 28
balls to get off the mark as the scoreboard ticked slowly. Williams
increased his tempo, but for the second successive week was run out,
this time for 20 with the score on 42 in the 15th over, next over
Bonnett presenting a simple catch, departing for 17. Kev 'Creepy'
Pawley bowled for a 2nd ball duck before Oliver brothers Kevin and
Tim managed a partnership of 14 but it'll be little Kevin having the
bottom bunk this week as he was caught for 4.
Being the military man he is, Dunstan promoted himself but managed
just a single, 'Statto' Combellack next to fall, in a hurry for his
evenings drinking commitments. Bradley Bury falling in the 28th over
with the score 82-7. Tim Oliver had kept the board ticking his end,
but the sight of his captain, ie the tail, at the other end, he tried
to push on, alas stumped for 24.
Parish and Pollard then proceeded to use up a few overs, delaying
everyone's night out, contributing the 2nd highest partnership of
the innings, 25, before Pollard was finally bowled and the home dressing
room resembled that of an Australian one. Losers!
